We have grown tremendously in producing high-quality wigs, offering a carefully curated collection of machine-made wigs using premium human raw hair that can last for years.

Due to growing demand for wigs covered by health insurance, we’ve taken all the necessary steps and certifications to become an official medical wig provider.

If you’re experiencing hair loss due to a medical condition or treatment, we understand how emotional and overwhelming that can be. At Yayaa’s Handtouch, we specialize in custom-made medical wigs using 100% human hair—designed to restore not just your hair, but your confidence and sense of self.

 

What is MedicaHair?

MedicaHair is a specialized sub-brand of Yayaa’s Handtouch focused on providing medical hairpieces and wigs completely or partly reimbursed by Dutch health insurers.

We are now officially certified as a medical wig and hair prosthesis provider. We work with most Dutch health insurance companies to help you receive reimbursement for your hairpiece.

In 2025, The standard reimbursement amount is €497.50. If you have additional insurance, this amount may be higher.

Your Step-by-Step Process

  1. Visit your doctor as soon as you notice unusual hair loss.
  2. Request a referral letter from your doctor.

  4. Book a private medical consultation at our discreet in-salon wig studio.
  5. Complete your intake with our medical wig specialist.
  6. We handle the reimbursement process for you directly with your insurer. in some cases you need to contact your insurer yourself
  7. Your custom wig is made and delivered within the agreed time frame.
  8. Aftercare & Support: You’ll receive an automatic follow-up email. If needed, you can reach our customer service within 72 hours (business days).

 

Return & Order Policy

Due to hygiene regulations, all wigs and hair bundles are non-returnable. Cancelled orders for medical wigs/hairpieces will receive store credit valid for 2 months. If an item is damaged, a partial value deduction may apply. For questions or assistance contact us on:

What is a medical hair system?

A medical hair system is a hairpiece or wig provided due to medical hair loss, such as alopecia, chemotherapy, or other medical conditions.

Do I need a referral letter?

Yes. A valid referral letter from a GP or medical specialist is mandatory for all medical hair systems.

Without a referral, a medical consultation cannot take place.

Can I provide my referral digitally?

Yes. Referral letters may be provided:
• digitally (PDF or email), or
• physically (paper copy)

Digital referrals are fully accepted as long as they are clear, signed, and state a medical indication for hair loss.

Is a consultation required before treatment?

Yes. Every client must attend an in-person medical consultation before a medical hair system can be provided.

During this consultation, medical forms are completed, signed, and your personal care file (dossier) is created.

What happens during the medical consultation?

During the consultation:
• your medical situation is discussed
• intake, care, hygiene and privacy forms are completed
• your referral letter is reviewed
• a personalized care plan is created

This consultation is an essential part of the medical process.

What if I don’t have a referral yet?

If you do not have a referral yet, please do not book a consultation.
We recommend first contacting your GP or specialist.

Do you work with external hair?

No. MedicaHair works exclusively with hair from our own collection.
This applies to all medical services.

Is reimbursement guaranteed?

Reimbursement depends on your health insurer and policy.
We assist with the process, but final approval is determined by your insurer.

How is my privacy protected?

All personal and medical information is handled with strict confidentiality and in accordance with SEMH and privacy regulations.
